How to Ensure Your Office is a Safe Haven for Employees with Allergies

As a business owner, you have to juggle hundreds of responsibilities at any given time. Your primary responsibility is to make sure your company brings in more money than it spends, but it's extremely difficult to make this happen if you don't have a healthy workforce.

The fact is that more people are sensitive to allergies than fifty years ago, and if your workplace is a breeding ground for allergies, your workforce will take more sick days and they won't be able to work to full capacity. So how can you make sure that your workplace is a space where your staff can work without fear of encountering an allergic reaction?

Hire a green cleaning company. Of course, you know you need to hire cleaners to keep your office free of dirt and dust that can cause allergic reactions and problems for asthmatics, but ironically, the products that your cleaners use could be exacerbating the problem. As an alternative, search for green commercial cleaning companies that use organic, chemical-free and fragrance-free products that won't put anything nasty into the atmosphere and won't irritate the skin or respiratory systems of your employees.

Invest in air purifiers. If there is one thing that you need for your office space, it's an air purifier. Offices tend to be more insulated than homes, so the air doesn't get circulated nearly as well. An air purifier will encourage air circulation for a constant flow of uncontaminated air, and it will also remove pollen and pollutants through its air filter so that you and your employees only take in the freshest air during office hours.

Install allergy friendly plants. Plants and flowers are ideal in the workplace for a number of reasons. First of all, the very sight of plants can make people calmer and more able to concentrate, which is ideal for stressful work days. But plants also have natural air purifying capabilities, taking in carbon dioxide and transforming it into oxygen. Be careful with your choice of plants because some will have a strong smell and large amounts of pollen that can cause allergic reactions. The snake plant is a really good choice because it doesn't produce flowers with pollen, and it cleanses the air of many airborne toxins, such as formaldehyde, trichloroethylene, xylene, toluene and benzene.

Follow these pointers and you'll create an office space that is allergy free and works to maximum capacity.
